The Aerodynamics Laboratory is a teaching and research laboratory in the aerodynamics of subsonic and supersonic flows. Work includes aerodynamic testing of aeroplane, ship, train, car and truck models, roof ventilators and wind turbines. Calibration of instrumentation such as anemometers and pressure measuring devices is also conducted. There is a consulting service in all these activities.
The laboratory facilities include five subsonic wind tunnels (one with moving ground facility), one supersonic wind tunnel and a shock tube rig. It also has a wide range of equipment to measure air velocity, pressure, force and flow visualisation.
Access to testing facilities in the Aerodynamics Laboratory and contact with associated staff for consultation can be arranged through our consultation and testing service.
