Want to work in a supportive cross-disciplinary engineering team?

Interested in Electrical Engineering?

Want to travel overseas for presentations and conferences?

Maybe you should join the UNSW IFEC team!

About IFEC

Who we are

IFEC is a group of cross disciplinary undergraduate engineering students with an interest in power electronics and renewable energy technologies. The group was established in 2017 and focuses on peer learning in a supportive team environment.

Each year, the team competes in the International Future Energy Challenge against universities from across the world. Previously IFEC have designed and built a high efficiency isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter and had the opportunity to present our work overseas at the Power Electronics Conference in Texas.

Major goals and achievements

The teams core focus is the International Future Energy Challenge.

In the 2017-18 competition, the team were challenged to create an isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter for residential energy storage. The team progressed through the first round and presented their work at the Applied Power Electronics Conference in San Antonio, Texas!

My Story - Jared Agius

“Joining the IFEC team mid-way through last year, I was greeted by like-minded individuals, tasked with creating a high efficiency DC-DC converter. As the project progressed, I got the opportunity to apply my skills to a variety of different aspects of the project such as digital signal processing, circuit protection and micro-controller setup. As part of the team I also learned many things from older students and from support provided by the electrical engineering faculty. I would recommend IFEC to any engineering student who wants an opportunity to learn and to be a part of a committed engineering team.”
