Industry Advisory Panel

At the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering at UNSW we have an advisory panel to help us stay ahead of the game. The role of the advisory panel is to make sure we have the best chance of remaining at the top of this new and rapidly changing field.

Providing valuable advice on strategic activities, including future directions and opportunities, the advisory panel also assists with the clarification and attainment of our vision, creating strategies, implementing actions and measuring results.

The advisory panel also helps us to adopt leading research and provide advice on translating research to the benefit of health based organisations.

Dr Monica Hope

Dr Hope completed her PhD in 1994 from Curtin University of Technology and has worked in the regulatory affairs / clinical trials area for 15 years.  This includes time with Second Sight and Micromed Cardiovascular Inc in the US and Sirtex Medical Limited in Perth and Sydney.  As Director of SARQ Pty Ltd, Dr Hope consults to the pharmaceutical and medical device industries with regard to her expertise in Clinical/ Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance. Dr Hope has particular expertise in small companies and start-ups.


Dr Colin Stahel

Dr Stahel is a member of the Industry advisory Group of the School and brings to that committee experience in the medical device sector where he worked in the marketing area for 3M most recently,  as well as Lucid Pty Ltd in the US, Polartechnics and Telectronics here in Australia. 

Dr Stahel has a PhD in the biological sciences, an MBA and 20 years of experience in the development of medical technology including the marketing of diagnostics and medical devices across both domestic and international companies.
