UNSW Co-op Engineering Poster Evening
On Thursday 12th October, the UNSW Co-op Program held their 2017 Engineering Poster Evening at the Michael Crouch Innovation Centre. The poster evening sees penultimate year Co-op students enrolled in Engineering, Science and Built Environment programs present their achievements and projects they have worked on during their placements at various sponsor companies. Representatives from the sponsor companies, program academic advisors and Engineering Co-op students from younger years are invited to attend, to learn about the experiences of these students working in industry and vote for their favourite posters.
Bridget Aitkenhead, a 4th year scholar studying Industrial Chemistry, received first place in the poster competition for her experience at Selleys of ‘Developing a Safe Paint Stripper’. As part of the Co-op Program, Bridget has completed several industrial experience placements in the Research and Development team at Selleys, one of Australia’s leading manufacturers of Adhesives, Sealants and “Do It Yourself” products. When asked about her experience as a development chemist, Bridget said: “Some of my roles have included formulating for new product development, product testing, researching new technologies and collaborating with Packaging, Marketing and Procurement teams. Completing placements at Selleys as part of the Co-op Program has given me great insight into working in a professional environment, has allowed me to apply knowledge and skills from university and will be valuable experience for my future career”.
