Engineers Australia National Board Appointment 2021 for Dr Kourosh Kayvani

Engineers Australia has announced that Dr Kourosh Kayvani, ex global Managing Director – Design, Innovation & Eminence of Aurecon, will be joining their Board in 2021.

Dr Kayvani is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, UNSW. He is also a CVEN alumnus, having attained an MEngSc and a PhD in structural engineering from the School. He is a long term member of the School’s Industry Advisory Committee , a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE).

CVEN Head of School Professor Travis Waller congratulated our colleague, Dr. Kayvani, who, he said , “will be of great service to our Profession in this important new role.”

In his 30 years in the industry, Kourosh has played key roles in the engineering of many innovative, complex structures across the globe, including Wembley Stadium in the UK, West Kowloon Terminus in Hong Kong and in Australia: ANSTO OPAL nuclear reactor, the Sydney Hockey Stadium, Brookfield Place, Civic Tower, 5 Martin Place, Liberty Place and Melbourne Star Observation Wheel.

Dr Kayvani specialises in long-span structures, tall buildings, stadium structures, seismic design and forensic engineering. He is a Laureate of the IABSE Prize awarded by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering for his work on long-span structures worldwide. He has also been listed in Engineers Australia’s Top 100 most influential engineers. He is a Director of Australian Steel Institute (ASI). He was also the winner of the 2016 John Connell Gold Medal from the Engineers Australia Structural College.
