Undergraduate entry pathways

To be suitable for a career in Bioinformatics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Software Engineering, you need to have good analytical and abstraction skills and you should have studied Mathematics Extension 1 in high school.

A good English result is important for Software Engineering and Bioinformatics as computing professionals must document their designs clearly. Physics is important for Computer Engineering.

Current Australian HSC, New Zealand NCEA and IB students

Apply for admission through UAC

HSC Plus:  A program rewarding performance in Australian Senior Secondary Certificate [Year 12] courses relevant to UNSW undergraduate degrees by means of a bonus points system.

  • No separate application is required beyond the usual UAC application.

Current UNSW undergraduates

Current students are able to apply for internal program transfers.  Where programs are not open for internal transfer, admission is sought though UAC.

Faculty of Engineering admission scheme (FEAS)

If you anticipate achieving an ATAR between 81.00 and 90.95 then to maximise your opportunities for admission you are strongly encouraged to submit an application for an interview under FEAS.

  • Application for admission is via the usual UAC application.

  • Apply directly to UNSW via Apply Online.
  • Or use a recognised agent
