Researching at the Networked Systems and Security Group
Prospective research (PhD or Master by research) students are welcome to contact the academic staff of NetSyS to discuss opportunities to pursue research under their supervision. It would definitely be helpful for you to browse through the academic staff's respective web pages to learn something about their research interests before you email them. You might also want to take a look at the topics of our current PhD students. You should be aware that we generally expect our research students to have a GPA or WAM which is equivalent to a first-class honours undergraduate degree. Please make sure you include key to grades for your transcripts from other institutions. You should also include your resume when contacting us for research opportunities.
General information about research degrees and scholarships can be found on UNSW Computing's Postgraduate Research Programs page. It also contains information on the application procedure, entry requirements, scholarships available, and more.
Undergraduate students are also welcome to take a look at our open thesis topics - simply search for the names of our academic and research staff. Feel free to contact the thesis supervisor prior to your registration and have a chat about the topic details and our expectations.
NetSyS also offers a reading group for its PhD students. Topics include wireless mesh and sensor networks, phone sensing applications, and network scheduling and optimisation. Undergraduate students with an interest in cutting-edge research are welcome.
