UNSW Computing is one of the largest and finest of its kind in Australasia. We offer undergraduate bachelor degree programs in the areas of bioinformatics, computer engineering, software engineering, and computer science. Several dual award programs are available, which allow students to combine their major program of study with other awards such as science, arts, commerce, and biomedical engineering.
UNSW Computing also has a strong commitment to research, with focus in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Computer Architecture, Computer Systems, Database Systems, Networks & Software Engineering. It is complemented with high quality research facilities. UNSW Computing's research facilities and associated programs feed leading edge materials into final year electives and research projects.
There is opportunity for all undergraduates to complete a research thesis as part of their Bachelor of Engineering or through the honours program available to Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) students.
More information for future students can be found on the UNSW Engineering website by following the below program links. Please click here to submit an enquiry.
Undergraduate entry pathways
To be suitable for a career in Bioinformatics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Software Engineering, you need to have good analytical and abstraction skills and you should have studied Mathematics Extension 1 in high school.
A good English result is important for Software Engineering and Bioinformatics as computing professionals must document their designs clearly. Physics is important for Computer Engineering.

Apply for admission through UAC
HSC Plus: A program rewarding performance in Australian Senior Secondary Certificate [Year 12] courses relevant to UNSW undergraduate degrees by means of an adjustment factor scheme.
- No separate application is required beyond the usual UAC application.
- For more details, see HSCPlus.
Current UNSW undergraduates
Current students are able to apply for internal program transfers. Where programs are not open for internal transfer, admission is sought though UAC.
- For more details, UNSW IPT.
Faculty of Engineering admission scheme (FEAS)
If you anticipate achieving an ATAR just below the cut-off then to maximise your opportunities for admission you are strongly encouraged to submit an application for an interview under FEAS.
- Application for admission is via the usual UAC application.
- For more details, FEAS.
