EE&T student Nisha Pradhan wins Faculty of Engineering Student of the Year Award
During a presentation ceremony on Wednesday December 7th, EE&T student Nisha Pradhan was awarded Faculty of Engineering Student of the Year by the Dean Prof Mark Hoffman. The award recognises Nisha’s outstanding service to engineering over the past several years. Her leadership efforts are too numerous to list fully here, but include serving as President of The Women in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications (TWEET), Engineers Australia Campus Coordinator, ENGSOC Executive member, Faculty Board and Faculty Program Committee member. Nisha has also recently founded a brand new comprehensive outreach program for primary and secondary schools called Uncover STEM (USTEM), which provides talented, inspiring and motivated speakers as well as hands-on workshops. USTEM links schools who want to know more about STEM to student-led projects and speakers, as a facilitator connecting people. USTEM fills a niche that is not provided by any other university or organisation, and is succeeding as a way to pool outreach resources and as a single venue through which schools can access a whole range of resources for STEM. Nisha continues to be an outstanding ambassador for engineering at every level, and has been featured in the media many times promoting engineering as a career path for women.
