WAVES: Wear, Aeroacoustics and Vibration in Engineering Systems

Our focus is on understanding, predicting and controlling noise, vibration and wear of mechanical and bio-engineering systems.  Our specialities include:

(a)  aeroacoustics, fluid-structure interaction, flow induced noise, acoustic and vibration measurements,
(b)  advanced numerical capabilities for flow-structure-acoustic interaction problems, and
(c)  wear and fracture mechanisms, and machine condition monitoring using vibration, oil and wear debris analysis techniques.

 

Key Capabilities:

  • Analytical and numerical methods for acoustic and vibration modelling including coupling of computational fluid dynamics and acoustic solvers, boundary element models, analytical solutions of vibroacoustics, meta-materials.
  • State of the art facilities and world-leading expertise in the field of machine condition monitoring using vibration and wear debris analysis techniques.
  • Aeroacoustic measurements including acoustic beamforming, near-field acoustic holography, unsteady surface pressure and fluid dynamics.
