About UNSW Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering
The UNSW School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering is a leading provider of world-class education and research in mining and petroleum engineering. We offer degrees and courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our multidisciplinary academics produce internationally acclaimed research, working closely with our partners in the minerals and energy sectors.
We aim to find innovative solutions to the most complex problems facing local and global industries. With gas, petroleum, mining and minerals industries contributing $190 billion a year to Australia’s economy, our work is now more important than ever.
Our School leads not only in Australia but also the world. In the latest global rankings, we're 4th in the world (QS World University Rankings, 2020), and 8th in the world (Academic Ranking of World Universities, 2019).
As a member of the Mining Education Australia (MEA), UNSW Sydney collaborated with Australia’s leading mining engineering universities to develop and deliver a comprehensive, industry backed education program. Our School’s graduates learn about all aspects of mining engineering including technical, operational and social, community and environmental issues. This partnership has also provided access to educational resources, research expertise and industry experience.
With the best facilities in resources engineering in the country, we are doing the research and producing the graduates who are addressing climate change. Our areas of focus include CO₂ sequestration; improving efficiencies through digital rock analysis; generating clean energy through geothermal engineering; and research into space mining.
