Pells Sullivan Meynink signs on to support a key academic role
Pells Sullivan Meynink signs its third round of funding with UNSW’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
During an official signing ceremony held at the Faculty of Engineering today, UNSW and Pells Sullivan Meynink joined forces for a further five years.
The sponsorship between the two organisations started 10 years ago when Professor Nasser Khalili, the most senior geotechnical academic in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, approached PSM with the idea. This great collaborative opportunity saw the establishment of an academic position at the School as the PSM Senior Lecturer of Rock Mechanics.
In 2007, Dr Kurt Douglas was appointed to the role and ever since he has regularly visited PSM’s offices to be their expert on tap.
“PSM’s support has enabled us to continue to grow our Geotechnical group into the leader it is today. We pride ourselves on carrying out fundamental research that leads to practical solutions for industry,” says Dr Douglas. “This relationship allows us to have direct contact with leading geotechnical practitioners and their challenges which benefits our academics, researchers, students and I believe, the staff of PSM.”
In attendance at today’s signing event was Tim Sullivan, the Chairman of Pells Sullivan Meynink. Mr Sullivan said that PSM highly values the research contributions of the university sector and a natural extension of this is to support the academic position.
“UNSW are leaders in Geotechnical Engineering education and have made major contributions to the profession over many years,” says Mr Sullivan. “By supporting this academic role we are giving something back.”
As Industry partners PSM can access the School’s best students, and, not surprisingly, the vast majority of the company’s engineers are UNSW Engineering alumni.

They have established a reputation throughout Australasia for highly specialised design services tailored for the challenges of both the natural and built environments, with innovative solutions to difficult engineering problems.
