Our staff and students are associated with a number of professional societies. These societies provide an opportunity for members to network, exchange information and promote their discipline.

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)

The vision of the SPE is to “enable the global oil and gas industry to share technical knowledge needed to meet the world’s energy needs in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.” The SPE is the largest and the leading association of professionals in the upstream petroleum industry.

Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia (PESA)

PESA is a national organisation representing the interests of professionals and practitioners in the upstream petroleum industry – particular geoscientists. The Society also aims to promote technical and professional excellence among its membership and their colleagues.

International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC)

IADC’s mission is to work for and with drilling and completion companies to advance technology, improve industry practices, and champion reasonable and responsible regulation of the industry. IADC is primarily an association of companies.

Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA)

The Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) is an association of professionals committed to advancing the science of petrophysics and formation evaluation, through well logging and other formation evaluation techniques and to applying these methods to the discovery and production of gas, oil and other minerals.

The Australian chapter of the SPWLA is known as the Formation Evaluation Society of Australia (FESAus)

The SCA is a Chapter-at-Large of the SPWLA and is established to serve the interests of all persons who use or obtain reservoir evaluation information from rock and core samples.

Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA)

APPEA is the peak national body representing Australia’s oil and gas exploration and production industry. With more than 80 members, APPEA represents about 98% of Australia’s petroleum production. The association engages in outreach to government and community to build understanding of this critical industry. APPEA is primarily an association of companies.
