Australia is not Enough - 30 years on and SCOPE is going strong
In its 30th year. the School of Petroleum Engineering (SCOPE) is ready for the future, launching from the achievements of the past
The School's recent 30th Anniversary & Student Awards Gala Dinner was an evening of excitement, celebrating past successes and opportunities for the future. Guest were privileged to hear from a number of speakers during the night. Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, Roads, Industry, Resources and Energy, Mr John Sidoti MP congratulated the School on its contributions to the oil and gas industry in NSW and Australia. Then 'founding fathers' of the School, Andrew Young and John White spoke of how the School came to be established and the impact it has had on the profession in Australia. While in an energising speech, Steve Nally of lead sponsor Welltrain NWDCP, rallied guests for the next 30 years of the oil and gas industry and UNSW Petroleum Engineering.
Head of School, Professor Klaus Reganauer-Lieb, paid tribute to the leadership of foundation Head of School, Emeritus Professor Val Pinczewski, and doyen of UNSW Petroleum Engineering, the late Henry Salisch. Professor Klaus noted how the School is now pushing the boundaries of teaching and research in Petroleum Engineering - developing new online and blended courses for the digital classroom, while producing cutting edge research in next generation reservoir engineering, unconventional geomechanics and digital core analysis. This push in teaching and research posits a bright future for the School - spreading its wings and encompassing new collaborative endeavors across Australia and around the world.
Finally, the night would not have been possible without the generous support of our industry sponsors. It was a great pleasure to welcome so many sponsor representatives and have them present prizes to students for outstanding performance across the academic program, for excellence in particular courses and for exemplary student leadership and service.
