The UNSW Master of Engineering Science in Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology is a two-year full-time or flexible part-time degree. The degree was developed to encourage the application of a deeper understanding of geotechnical theory to solve practical problems in areas including soil mechanics, rock mechanics, slope stability, foundation design, earthworks and dam engineering.

If you are looking for a way to expand your career options in Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology or would like to move your existing engineering career in a new direction, the Master of Engineering Science will provide you with advanced skills and knowledge that you can apply to your professional engineering projects.

This Master of Engineering Science degree is for practising Geotechnical Engineers and Engineering Geologists. The majority of the geotechnical courses are offered with a compulsory short course, on-campus component. Students are expected to follow this up with personal study and assignments through the rest of the trimester. This flexibility enables our industry-based students from around Australia, New Zealand and Asia to attend.

The degree is designed for students who already have a four-year accredited engineering degree and who now wish to broaden their job prospects through cross training, re-training or specialisation. While this program takes two years to complete, you may be granted credit for some courses. If you have a degree or extensive professional experience in a related area, you can apply for credit of up to 50% of a program.

To be considered for this degree, you need a recognised four-year Bachelor degree in engineering with a minimum 70% average in one of the following: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering with Architecture or Mining Engineering.
